BIAPWS offers selected sponsorship opportunities for student placements and schools events that aim to raise the awareness and generate new interest amongst students in the areas of science and technology relevant to the properties of water and steam, including power plant chemistry.
BIAPWS Student Award
The BIAPWS Award is currently established as the co-sponsorship between BIAPWS and one of our Industrial Members of a 10 week undergraduate student placement. The aims of the Award are:
- To initiate a student placement that might not otherwise take place;
- To introduce undergraduates to the areas of application of the properties of water and steam in industry, particularly in power generation and related industries;
- To introduce undergraduates to career opportunities in power generation and associated industries.
Many past BIAPWS Award winners have since gone on to full time employment in power generation, demonstrating significant success for the Award in attracting high calibre individuals to the industry.
The reports prepared by previous Award Students are provided to the left to demonstrate the benefits and the varied type of experience that the Award can offer to undergraduates and Industrial Members alike.
BIAPWS is also keen to support schools events in the areas of science and technology of relevance to our interests.
For a number of years, BIAPWS has sponsored prizes for energy related projects at the annual Hinckley Schools Science Fair in Leicestershire. The main purpose of the fair is to enthuse and engage students in science, but it also provides the students with a forum to showcase the projects that they have completed. Students of ages from 9 up to 19 participate in the event with attendees from around ten local schools and colleges.
We welcome new opportunities to support events of this kind.
