The British and Irish Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (BIAPWS) exists to advance knowledge of the properties of water, steam and aqueous systems, particularly those of interest to industry. This knowledge is generally made available to engineers and scientists to use.
Our members include universities, research institutes and industrial companies who also provide links to institutions such as the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. We are represented on international standardisation committees relevant to our members, including the British Standards Institute and Euro Norm working groups.
BIAPWS is the only independent representative body for Power Plant Chemistry in the UK and Ireland. For nearly 20 years, we have provided a forum for both maintaining and exchanging information on power plant chemistry, water treatment and environmental chemistry. We hold regular meetings and organise an annual symposium at which attendees are encouraged to contribute whilst benefiting from the informative discussions.
