IAPWS

BIAPWS represents the National Committee for the United Kingdom and Ireland of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS).

IAPWS is a non-profit association of national organisations concerned with the properties of water and steam, particularly thermo-physical properties, cycle chemistry and other aspects that are relevant to thermal power cycles and other industrial applications.

The objectives of IAPWS include:

  • The provision of internationally accepted formulations for the properties of steam, water and selected aqueous solutions for scientific and industrial application;
  • To define and promote research in these areas;
  • To provide an international forum for the exchange of experiences, ideas and the results of research.

To share information and experiences between researchers and engineers, IAPWS holds annual meetings and also international conferences at 4 to 5 year intervals.  The 2013 meeting was also the 16th International Conference, which was held at the University of Greenwich in London on 1 - 5 September 2013.  The event was co-organised and hosted by BIAPWS and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Further information on IAPWS can be found at www.iapws.org.  IAPWS Technical Guidance Documents that have been issued on power plant chemistry can be found here.
